We love coming to Thirsk Market Place – there’s something special about its cobbles, the historic town, and the sense of local flavour that fills the air. Every first Sunday of the month, from 9am to 2pm, we bring together a selection of our favourite food and drink producers. You’ll find us by the Tourist Information Centre (YO7 1EY), where the stalls spill out into the square against the backdrop of Thirsk’s charming heritage buildings
At Thirsk Farmers’ Market, we assemble a vibrant mix of nearly 20 artisan food & drink producers — bakers, butchers, makers of jams, cheeses, pies, bakes, savouries and much more.
Everything you see is grown, reared or produced by the person selling it — that local authenticity is at the heart of what we do.
Some highlights of the stalls you might spot on market days include:
There’s always something fresh to try, and often we see new and returning traders bringing new flavours or seasonal specials.
All stallholders are local independent businesses who grow, rear or make what they sell. That means your honey, meat, pastry or cheese is made with care, close to home.
Thirsk really is a classic market town – full of charm, friendly faces and plenty of character. We hope you leave with more than just delicious food – maybe a few new discoveries, some inspiration for your kitchen
Thirsk is easy to reach via road from the surrounding towns and villages. As you approach, the Market Place is well signed.
Parking is available around the town centre. Because market is in the central square, some streets are busy, so arriving a little earlier helps. There are public car parks nearby, and some street parking. It’s worth checking local signage.
Thirsk is reasonably walkable, and the market square is accessible to pushchairs. We’ll always try to make sure stalls are arranged to help with access. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Because Thirsk is more than just a stop-off, you can easily build a full day around your market visit. After grabbing fresh produce and treats, wander through the town’s independent shops, cafés and delis.
Don’t miss The World of James Herriot museum – always popular – or the Thirsk Museum, which gives a lovely insight into the history, farming heritage and culture of the area.
Looking for a farmers market in Thirsk where you can find genuine local farm produce, artisan food and homemade goods? Our Thirsk Farmers’ Market brings together some of the best independent food and drink producers from across North Yorkshire. Held in the heart of Thirsk Market Place, it’s a wonderful opportunity to buy directly from the people who grow, rear and make your food.
From handmade pies to organic dog treats, local honey and free-range meat, everything here is produced within 50 miles of the market. Whether you’re a Thirsk local or visiting for the weekend, you’ll find great food, a friendly atmosphere and the true taste of Yorkshire.

EXCELLENT Based on 13 reviews Posted on Janet NewlandsVerified An excellent morning out, would recommend a visit A memorable visit to a lovely market town, the farmers market had an excellent variety of products to offer and the craft fair was very interesting, also enjoyed the walk on the river side watching the ducklings and looking around the individual shops and found an excellent fruit and vegetable shop, shall be definitely be going to the next onePosted on chris eVerified Great local produce Right in the town centre on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month a great selection of local gourmet scotch eggs , pies , honey , rare breed meats and other tasty things - take a big bag you will need itPosted on Laura TVerified We shall return to stock up on treats - hopefully they'll be even more stalls next time Northern Dales Farmers Market is a travelling farmers market. They run markets every weekend in several locations (once a month to each location); Stokesley, Thirsk, Preston Park, Hartlepool, Wynyard Hall, Stewart Park, Easingwold. The market wasn't as big as we expected, maybe around 15 stalls, but the weather wasn't very good on both of our visits (Stokesley & Stuarts Park) so maybe it was a smaller turn out than usual. Stokesley's Market is right on the high street so could potentially be very busy, but we paid for parking at nearby local supermarket. We shall enjoy returning to the Farrmer's Market a couple of times a year to stock up on treats :-) Gigantic scones, delicious pies, fresh breads, lovely desserts, fresh meats, home-made non-alcoholic wine and a range of flavoured cheeses. Just wish someone there sold fresh olives!Posted on Ian WVerified Great Produce My favourite farmers market, lots of great and interesting produce. Some things are a bit on the expense side but it's well worth it for the quality. Highly recommended.Posted on OldBill2Verified Wish we had one like this! We went to Stokesley last Saturday and were pleasantly surprised by to find that not only was there a Farmers Market on but also a craft fair in what I believe is the town hall. Both were very good indeed and it was a pleasure to see local produce being sold by local people. The farmers market in particular was excellent with fresh fruit, veg, bread, eggs, scones and lots of other things, like chilli plants for sale. All the stall holders were friendly and welcoming and we had a thoroughly nice time. I just wish that our town had a market like this one - it beats the supermarkets hands down. Well done Stokesley !Posted on nmaidwell123Verified Lots of great stalls selling a good range of produce One of the best if not the best farmers markets around. Lots of excellent products available and the stall holders are very welcomingPosted on Colin FVerified Lucky Visit We were lucky to be in the right place at the right time and stumbled on the market. A great display of local wares and food with a great atmosphere and very friendly peoplePosted on ClanClarkVerified Small but perfectly formed Cracking little farmers market. Parked at coop as we bought a few supplies there. Quite a variety as well as the usual fantastic butchers and cheese makers etc. From dog treats to Korean snacks. Not very big, but well worth a potter.Posted on ChristineM50Verified Great variety, quality and taste What a great selection of foods on offer, we always come home with a fantastic array of local produce. Some of our favourites are Pie Jackers, Acorn Preserves, Wreford farm and Labour of loaf. There is also a great selection of brownies, flapjacks, biscuits, ciders and many other tasty items.Posted on Dave JVerified Farmers Market or Craft Market ! Seems to have changed slot over the years and as I understand the originsl rules I cannot see how some of the stalls meet the original rules, having said that it's worth a day out as some of the food stalls are very good and you won't find these foods on your big supermarket shelves. The Stokesley farmer's market is on the high street and always as plenty of stalls and although first impressions you may think items are expensive remember that alot of time and effort goes in to these products.
