Find our fabulous artisan market on the first Saturday of every month, from 9am to around 2pm (or sell out!)
More than 30 local producers bring their best: meat, fish, cheese, breads, preserves, plants, baked goods — each stall has a story, each product tied to local land and local hands. Come along and meet the maker, ask questions about your produce, take a moment to chat about farming life, or learn a recipe tip!
Our Stokesley Farmers’ Market has a relatively recent history, beginning back in 2003, but it’s grown steadily ever since. What started as a small gathering of passionate local producers has become a thriving monthly event. Now we’re proudly home to over 30 stalls filled with incredible local food and craft. Every market day, we’re proud to see the square buzzing with visitors.
Stokesley Market is run as part of Northern Dales Farmers’ Markets, a not-for-profit social enterprise that exists to support local producers and communities. Everything sold here is genuinely local — each item is grown, reared or handmade within 50 miles of Stokesley. That means you’re buying directly from the people who made it, helping to keep food miles low and our rural economy strong.
Our stallholders have won Great Taste Awards, British Pie Awards, Royal Horticultural Society Awards and Game Awards to name just a few.
Local producers’ markets like ours help the environment by reducing food miles – the food and drink on sale hasn’t travelled miles across the country to get here. Everything on our markets is grown, reared or produced locally, and when you shop with a local business you are helping the local economy.
All our food and drink producers have a minimum 4 Star Hygiene Rating and each one is registered with their relevant local authority
Visitors can expect to see our local traders with outstanding range of goods including fresh bread, cakes, biscuits and puddings, cereals, dairy produce and free-range eggs, fish, meats, poultry and game, pies and pasties, preserves, jams, honey, chutneys, fudge, seasonal vegetables, fruit, plants and herbs. Every month brings something new to discover and enjoy.
Recognised as one of the most successful and popular farmers’ markets in the region, Stokesley’s reputation was firmly cemented when we won the FARMA National Farmers’ Market of the Year Award in 2014. At the award ceremony, judge Gareth Jones described it as “a jewel of a farmers’ market — brimming with local food and bursting with energy. It’s clear why it is so loved.”
Judging of the competition, run by the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association (Farma) and involved sending mystery shoppers to the markets.
We were awarded points on a range of criteria, including layout, quality of produce, value for money and traders’ knowledge. All entrants into the competition had to be FARMA certified, which means that all producers must have come from within 100 miles of the market.
Quoted in the Darlington & Stockton Times then Market Manager Nigel Davison commented:
“I didn’t think that I’d be able to get up out of my chair, I was so shocked. All I remember saying in my speech was that we have now put the north-east of Yorkshire firmly on the map.”
We have special seasonal markets also take place each year around Christmas, offering even more opportunities to celebrate local food and craftsmanship, and to shop local during the festive period!

Stokesley is a picturesque Georgian market town sitting at the foot of the North York Moors National Park, about 10 miles south of Middlesbrough and 12 miles from Northallerton. It’s easily reached by car via the A172 or A173, and there are regular bus services connecting Stokesley to nearby towns and villages.
Parking is plentiful and close to the market:
There’s also level access throughout the market area, making it wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Dogs are welcome too — we just ask that they’re kept on a lead
If you’re visiting from outside the area, why not turn your market trip into a full day out? Stokesley is packed with independent shops, cosy cafés, tearooms and pubs — perfect for a relaxed lunch or afternoon coffee.
After the market, take a stroll along the River Leven, or follow one of the nearby walking routes leading towards the beautiful North York Moors. The town often hosts local events, fairs and seasonal celebrations, so there’s usually something extra happening to enjoy.
If you’re staying a little longer, Stokesley makes a great base for exploring the region — you’re just a short drive from Great Ayton, Roseberry Topping, Osmotherley, and some of the most stunning countryside in Yorkshire.

EXCELLENT Based on 13 reviews Posted on Janet NewlandsVerified An excellent morning out, would recommend a visit A memorable visit to a lovely market town, the farmers market had an excellent variety of products to offer and the craft fair was very interesting, also enjoyed the walk on the river side watching the ducklings and looking around the individual shops and found an excellent fruit and vegetable shop, shall be definitely be going to the next onePosted on chris eVerified Great local produce Right in the town centre on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month a great selection of local gourmet scotch eggs , pies , honey , rare breed meats and other tasty things - take a big bag you will need itPosted on Laura TVerified We shall return to stock up on treats - hopefully they'll be even more stalls next time Northern Dales Farmers Market is a travelling farmers market. They run markets every weekend in several locations (once a month to each location); Stokesley, Thirsk, Preston Park, Hartlepool, Wynyard Hall, Stewart Park, Easingwold. The market wasn't as big as we expected, maybe around 15 stalls, but the weather wasn't very good on both of our visits (Stokesley & Stuarts Park) so maybe it was a smaller turn out than usual. Stokesley's Market is right on the high street so could potentially be very busy, but we paid for parking at nearby local supermarket. We shall enjoy returning to the Farrmer's Market a couple of times a year to stock up on treats :-) Gigantic scones, delicious pies, fresh breads, lovely desserts, fresh meats, home-made non-alcoholic wine and a range of flavoured cheeses. Just wish someone there sold fresh olives!Posted on Ian WVerified Great Produce My favourite farmers market, lots of great and interesting produce. Some things are a bit on the expense side but it's well worth it for the quality. Highly recommended.Posted on OldBill2Verified Wish we had one like this! We went to Stokesley last Saturday and were pleasantly surprised by to find that not only was there a Farmers Market on but also a craft fair in what I believe is the town hall. Both were very good indeed and it was a pleasure to see local produce being sold by local people. The farmers market in particular was excellent with fresh fruit, veg, bread, eggs, scones and lots of other things, like chilli plants for sale. All the stall holders were friendly and welcoming and we had a thoroughly nice time. I just wish that our town had a market like this one - it beats the supermarkets hands down. Well done Stokesley !Posted on nmaidwell123Verified Lots of great stalls selling a good range of produce One of the best if not the best farmers markets around. Lots of excellent products available and the stall holders are very welcomingPosted on Colin FVerified Lucky Visit We were lucky to be in the right place at the right time and stumbled on the market. A great display of local wares and food with a great atmosphere and very friendly peoplePosted on ClanClarkVerified Small but perfectly formed Cracking little farmers market. Parked at coop as we bought a few supplies there. Quite a variety as well as the usual fantastic butchers and cheese makers etc. From dog treats to Korean snacks. Not very big, but well worth a potter.Posted on ChristineM50Verified Great variety, quality and taste What a great selection of foods on offer, we always come home with a fantastic array of local produce. Some of our favourites are Pie Jackers, Acorn Preserves, Wreford farm and Labour of loaf. There is also a great selection of brownies, flapjacks, biscuits, ciders and many other tasty items.Posted on Dave JVerified Farmers Market or Craft Market ! Seems to have changed slot over the years and as I understand the originsl rules I cannot see how some of the stalls meet the original rules, having said that it's worth a day out as some of the food stalls are very good and you won't find these foods on your big supermarket shelves. The Stokesley farmer's market is on the high street and always as plenty of stalls and although first impressions you may think items are expensive remember that alot of time and effort goes in to these products.
